Egypt’s ex-president Mubarak dies at 91

FORMER Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak, who was ousted in the 2011 Arab Spring, has died at the age of 91. Mr Mubarak (pictured) died at a Cairo hospital after unspecified surgery, state TV announced. The pro-US leader was in power for three decades before he was forced to resign on February 11, 2011, after 18 days of protests. He was convicted with his former security chief and sentenced to life in 2012 for failing to prevent the killing of 900 protesters, but both were cleared on appeal in 2014.
