The Supreme Constitutional Court of Egypt has upheld the constitutionality of the legal article authorizing the
censorship authority to withdraw the previous license by issuing the offer “if new circumstances arise”.
“The legislator has released the freedom of artistic creativity in the field of cinematography, but this release, within
the limits of the law, is limited to the protection of public morals, the maintenance of public order and security, and
the interests of the supreme state, And its religious, moral and social values. ”
The court said in its merits.
Also added :
“If the cinematic work comes out of one of these borders, it goes beyond the basic social, moral or political
fundamentals protected by the Constitution, which always transcend and protect, in the area of care and protection,
the individual individual freedom.”
The film, which produced in 2014, sparked a wide-ranging debate on cinematic and cultural levels, as it included
bold scenes with different views.
The Supreme Court of Egypt ruled this decision, a legal controversy erupted five years ago, following the issuance of
an administrative decision by the Prime Minister to withdraw the license of the film “Halwet rouh”, which starred
Lebanese actress Haifa Wehbe, and prevented her time from the public presentation.
