DAVID BECKHAM reckons pal Prince Harry’s decision to quit his royal duties is the right thing to do for his family.
The ex-footballer says he supports the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s choice to start a new life in Canada, so their son Archie can live a normal life away from Windsor.
‘When you are a parent, it changes everything. He (Harry) always needs to be happy,’ he said.
He went on: ‘I haven’t spoken to Harry about him moving but we speak as friends and that’s the most important thing for me.
‘I think he’s enjoying being a young father for the first time and that’s what we always spoke about.’
And Becks says the 35-year-old royal will always be welcome to join him in the stands and watch a game when his football team, Inter Miami, kicks off its first season in America’s MLS later this year.
The 44-year-old is the owner of the new club but insists the venture is not a ‘vanity project’.
‘This is a legacy. It is what we want to create for our children. We want them to turn around in ten, 15, 20 years and say, “Our dads’ built this”,’ Becks said during a charm offensive across the pond.
Meanwhile, the dad-of-four has revealed he still has the piece of paper wife Victoria wrote her phone number on when they first met.
The ex-Spice Girl, 45, won admiring glances from Becks in the players’ lounge while he starred for Manchester United in the ’90s.
‘She’d had a couple of drinks, so I decided, “I’ll try and get her number”,’ he reminisced.
‘We talked for about an hour in the players’ lounge. She actually got the train up that day, so she wrote her number down on her train ticket, which I still have.’
Posh was with Sporty Spice, Mel C, at the time, and Becks insists Victoria has always been his favourite Spice Girl. ‘It might be a bit awkward if (she) wasn’t,’ he quipped.
