In a surprise move that has delighted music enthusiasts and film fans alike, Dead Man’s Bones, the eerie indie rock duo formed by Oscar-nominated actor Ryan Gosling and musician Zach Shields, has officially announced its return to the music scene after a 17-year hiatus. The band is set to release brand-new material on October 27, perfectly timed for the Halloween season.
The announcement was revealed through a haunting teaser video posted on the band’s newly created Instagram account.
The cryptic video features a young girl reading a gothic poem set against a supernatural backdrop, declaring that “all of this must change October 27, when our ghosts must leave our world for this, to dance with us at twilight time”.
The news gained widespread attention when Gosling’s partner, actress Eva Mendes, shared the post on social media alongside the caption, “He came through on his promise to me.”
Formed in the mid-2000s after Gosling and Shields bonded over their shared fascination with monsters, ghosts, and Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion attraction, Dead Man’s Bones released their self-titled debut album in October 2009.
The original 12-track project gained cult status for its unique blend of gothic folk, theatrical arrangements, and dark themes of mortality, featuring backing vocals from the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir.
Over the years, tracks like “In the Room Where You Sleep” and “Lose Your Soul” became prominent cultural staples, frequently featured in horror films like The Conjuring and various television soundtracks.
While Gosling’s acting career skyrocketed over the past decade with critically acclaimed blockbusters, fans regularly inquired about the future of his musical project.
During recent press tours, the actor subtly hinted at a possible revival, fueling years of speculation among dedicated listeners. With the upcoming release on October 27, Dead Man’s Bones promises to resurrect their signature haunting sound and deliver a fresh chapter of music for their long-awaiting audience.
