Wolves reach last 16 of Europa League

WOLVES boss Nuno Espirito Santo did not let defeat on the night cloud his delight at reaching the last 16 of the Europa League.

Jonathan Calleri’s hat-trick gave Espanyol a 3-2 victory but Wolves, 4-0 up from the first leg, never looked in much danger despite Santo making five changes with Sunday’s trip to Tottenham in mind.

‘Our fans are happy. We made something that is good for us and we are proud of what we’re doing,’ said Nuno.

He had seen Wolves equalise twice through Adama Traore, playing in his native Barcelona, and defender Matt Doherty’s seventh goal of the season.

Both goals were created by Portuguese winger Daniel Podence, who looked particularly lively on his first start since a £17million January move from Olympiakos.

Wolves blew a chance to go 3-2 up when Pedro Neto fired wide before Calleri won it for Espanyol at the death.
