The vault is locked tight until January 19, 2046—the date that would mark Parton’s 100th birthday.
To ensure future audiences can actually hit play, the master recording was sealed alongside a CD player. Until the deadline arrives, both the track’s melody and lyrics remain strictly top secret.
Parton later admitted that keeping the project under wraps wasn’t easy, calling it a genuinely great song while expressing playful anxiety over whether the hardware and physical media would even survive the decades-long storage.
Nevertheless, the release strategy remains untouched.
