A 90-year-old mother from the United States has finally reunited with her daughter, 62 years after being forced to place her for adoption as an unmarried teenager.
Ada Vance was just 18 years old when she gave birth to her daughter, whom she named Mary, in 1962. Facing intense societal pressure and family constraints at the time, Vance was unable to keep her newborn and was compelled to sign adoption papers. Despite decades of separation, Vance never stopped searching for her child, keeping a small photograph of the baby tucked inside her wallet for over six decades.
The groundbreaking reunion was made possible through a commercial DNA testing kit used by Mary’s adult children, who were attempting to build a family tree. The genetic match immediately alerted both sides, leading to an emotional phone call followed by an in-person meeting at Vance’s home in Ohio. Holding her long-lost daughter for the first time in more than six decades, an emotional Vance declared that she would never let go of her again.
