Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Film Festival (RSIFF) has officially canceled its planned 2026 edition and postponed its sixth outing to the fourth quarter of 2027, festival organizers announced Monday.
The flagship Middle Eastern film gathering, which was scheduled to take place in December in the coastal city of Jeddah, stated that the decision followed an extensive internal review regarding operational logistics and event timing. Organizers noted that pushing the gathering back will allow the foundation to stage its next edition at the right time and under optimal conditions to deliver an exceptional experience for international guests and regional filmmakers alike.
“As we look ahead to our return to Historic Jeddah, the Red Sea Film Foundation’s work continues year-round through its programs, initiatives, and support for filmmakers and the wider film community,” the organization shared in an official statement released across its media channels.
While the main festival’s high-profile premieres and starry red-carpet galas will not take place this year, the underlying film industry infrastructure supported by the foundation will remain fully active. The Red Sea Fund and Red Sea Labs—key pillars in financing, mentoring, and incubating independent cinema across the Arab world, Africa, and Asia—will proceed uninterrupted with their regular cycles of production grants, script development workshops, and post-production support.
To bridge the gap until the 2027 festival, the foundation revealed plans to launch a slate of public cultural events and specialized cinema programming starting in November 2026. These events will be hosted at Culture Square in Al-Balad, Jeddah’s historic district and UNESCO World Heritage site, aiming to maintain dynamic year-round engagement with local audiences and film enthusiasts.
Organizers also advised filmmakers, distributors, and media representatives impacted by the postponement that instructions regarding film submission fees and accreditation refunds are accessible via the foundation’s official web portal.
Since launching its inaugural edition in 2021, the Red Sea Film Festival has swiftly emerged as a major cultural player on the international festival circuit. Serving as a centerpiece for Saudi Arabia’s expanding media and entertainment sector under Vision 2030, the event has consistently drawn top-tier Hollywood stars, global industry executives, and auteur directors to Jeddah, establishing itself as a vital launchpad for MENA cinema on the world stage.
