Again .. Fernandes inspires Manchester United

MANCHESTER United hopped, skipped and jumped their way into the last 16 of the Europa League but Arsenal flopped at home to Olympiakos in dramatic fashion.

Another piece of Bruno Fernandes bravado set United on their way to a 5-0 win over Club Bruges.

Just as he did in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Watford, Fernandes’ run-up included a cheeky jump before he calmly side-footed the ball home.

Odion Ighalo marked his first United start with the second and the tie was done and dusted by half-time when Scott McTominay added a third before two late goals from Fred sealed a 6-1 aggregate win.

Seeing his frontmen fire was a boost for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after an injury saw Anthony Martial miss out. ‘He didn’t feel right after training,’ said the United boss. ‘Hopefully it won’t be too bad but I don’t know yet how long he will be out for.’

Last year’s finalists Arsenal crashed out of the competition on away goals after a 2-1 defeat to Olympiakos at the Emirates, a 2-2 draw on aggregate.

Pape Abou Cisse’s second-half header took the tie into extra-time, where captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s spectacular finish looked to have won the tie for the hosts. However, Youssef El-Arabi fired home to stun the Gunners.
