FIFA has officially introduced “Islana” as the mascot for the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, scheduled to take place in Poland from September 5 to 27, 2026. The unveiling marks a key milestone in the build-up to the tournament, which will feature 24 national teams competing across four host cities: Bielsko-Biała, Katowice, Łódź, and Sosnowiec.
The character of Islana is deeply rooted in Slavic folklore, specifically inspired by the rusalki—mythological spirits of nature. Designed to reflect the energy and creativity of the modern women’s game, the mascot is portrayed as a guardian of nature with a playful and uplifting spirit. According to the official narrative, Islana’s connection to football began at Lake Gopło, symbolizing the harmony between natural heritage and the vibrant movement of the sport.
As the first FIFA women’s tournament to be hosted in Poland, the event aims to provide a global platform for the next generation of football stars. Organizers highlighted that Islana embodies the joy of play and is intended to inspire young athletes and fans alike throughout the three-week competition. With the mascot now revealed, the focus shifts toward the final tournament preparations and the welcoming of the global football community to Polish soil this September.
