Hollywood Veteran Defies Digital Duplication: Nicolas Cage Rejects Amazon’s AI Rights Mandate for ‘Spider-Noir’

In a firm stand against the growing dominance of artificial intelligence in the film industry, Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage revealed a major disagreement during the New York Comic Con. Cage disclosed his absolute refusal to comply with Amazon’s digital rights demands during the production of his series, Spider-Noir.

Speaking to the audience, Cage confirmed that he refused to sign a digital waiver embedded in his contract.
The proposed agreement would have granted the studio full authorization to replicate, extract, and utilize his physical likeness, voice, and performance dynamics using artificial intelligence algorithms.

The acclaimed actor directly linked his rejection to the tech giant’s broader strategic direction, highlighting its massive multi-billion-dollar investments in AI developers such as OpenAI. Cage stated unequivocally that his creative identity as an actor does not align with such practices, adding that he has no interest in participating in that eco-system and noting that future collaborations with the studio remain highly unlikely.

These remarks follow shortly after Amazon’s unexpected announcement to cancel the series and forgo a second season, despite strong viewership numbers and critical acclaim, including eleven Emmy nominations.
The fallout re-ignites an intense debate across Hollywood surrounding artists’ rights, intellectual property protection, and the ethical boundaries of replacing human performance with digital synthesis.
