LOS ANGELES — Cliff Booth is back, but the Hollywood he left behind is a very different beast.
Netflix has officially unveiled the trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, bringing Brad Pitt back to the iconic role that earned him an Academy Award in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. But while Tarantino authored the screenplay, the project marks a major directorial handover: David Fincher is stepping behind the camera to helm the thriller.
Set in 1977—eight years after the events of the original film—the narrative finds Booth having stepped away from his former life as a movie stunt double. No longer taking falls for leading men in front of the camera, Cliff has repurposed his unique skillset to become an off-the-books Hollywood “fixer,” handling sensitive, volatile industry problems that lie far beyond the reach of attorneys or the LAPD.
The central conflict ignites when talent agent Karen Crosby (Elizabeth Debicki) hires Booth to handle unhinged TV star Charlie Peters (Scott Caan). The assignment drags Cliff into a tangled web of Hollywood players, including Charlie’s wife, Toni (Carla Gugino); former football star Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II); and the treacherous Verduzco brothers, played by Matt Grove and J.P. Tadina.
While Tarantino’s 2019 original was a sun-drenched, fairy-tale love letter to 1969 Los Angeles, the trailer indicates that Fincher is steering the narrative into darker, neo-noir territory. As the plot shifts into crime, vice, and raw ambition, the film translates Tarantino’s character work into a colder, more lethal late-1970s underworld.
The project originally began as a screenplay Tarantino considered directing himself before he opted to pass the baton to Fincher with his full blessing—offering a rare cinematic convergence that marries Tarantino’s dialogue with Fincher’s meticulous visual precision.
To execute his vision, Fincher has reassembled his key craft collaborators, reuniting with Oscar-winning cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt (Mank, Mindhunter, The Killer), production designer Donald Graham Burt, editor Kirk Baxter, and costume designer Trish Summerville.
In a bold theatrical move, Netflix announced that The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth will receive an exclusive two-week global run in IMAX theaters starting November 25, 2026, before making its streaming debut on December 23, 2026.
Rounding out the ensemble cast are Peter Weller, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian. Pitt produces the feature alongside longtime Fincher collaborator Ceán Chaffin.
By resurrecting Cliff Booth under Fincher’s lens, Netflix is doing more than just serving up a second chapter for a fan-favorite character—it is recalibrating him for a grittier era, shifting the backdrop from a nostalgic Hollywood dreamscape to a tense, hard-edged crime saga.
