Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway are set to star in the anticipated sequel to the adrenaline-fueled racing feature “Days of Thunder,” reviving the High-octane NASCAR franchise more than three decades after its original release.
Paramount Pictures has slated the film for a global theatrical release on June 2, 2028. The production is being formatted for immersive premium large-format presentations, including IMAX, Dolby Cinema, and 4DX formats.
Cruise will reprise his role as skilled racer Cole Trickle, while Hathaway steps into the frame as a sharp race team owner and engineer. While specific plot details remain closely guarded, the narrative will explore the evolution of the racing icon nearly 38 years after his debut.
In addition to his starring role, Cruise is producing the feature alongside veteran producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper. The screenplay is penned by Will Staples, with Jonathan Levine attached to direct the project.
The original 1990 film, directed by Tony Scott, chronicled the fiery trajectory of a hotshot driver breaking into the premier NASCAR circuit under the guidance of a legendary coach played by Robert Duvall.
