The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has officially announced that Bela Bajaria, the Chief Content Officer of Netflix, will receive the prestigious 2026 International Emmy Founders Award. This coveted accolade recognizes her profound impact on the global television landscape and her ongoing efforts to elevate diverse storytelling on an international scale.
Bajaria is scheduled to accept the honor during the 54th International Emmy Awards Gala, which will take place in New York City on Monday, November 23.
By securing this distinction, she joins an elite roster of legendary media icons and creative visionaries who have previously received the award, including Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, J.J. Abrams, and Shonda Rhimes.
Bruce L. Paisner, the President and CEO of the International Academy, praised Bajaria’s strategic foresight in shaping modern entertainment.
He noted that her leadership has fundamentally redefined how global audiences discover and engage with television. Under her supervision, Netflix has pioneered a highly successful local-to-global strategy, which empowers creators worldwide to produce authentic, native-language content that resonates deeply across domestic borders.
Since stepping into her role as Chief Content Officer, Bajaria has championed monumental global hits from various regions, such as the South Korean phenomenon Squid Game, the French thriller Lupin, and Spain’s heist drama La Casa de Papel (Money Heist).
Her philosophy centers on the belief that great stories can come from anywhere and be loved by anyone, a guiding principle that has significantly broadened the diversity of mainstream digital entertainment.
This upcoming recognition highlights not only Bajaria’s personal corporate achievements but also the shifting dynamics of the entertainment industry, where international co-productions and localized programming continue to dominate global viewership charts.
