The 73rd Royal Film Performance at London’s Odeon Luxe Leicester Square brought out an A-list ensemble—including Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, and Jesse Plemons—ahead of the dark comedy-drama’s October debut.
LONDON — Tom Cruise brought royal-caliber star power to Leicester Square for the world premiere of his latest feature, Digger, celebrating the film’s launch at the 73rd Royal Film Performance alongside Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Oscar-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu.
Hosted at the iconic ODEON Luxe Leicester Square, the high-profile gala brought together Cruise, Iñárritu, and the film’s star-studded ensemble, including Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, and Emma D’Arcy. British sports icon David Beckham and his sons Romeo and Cruz were also among the featured guests on the carpet.
The evening marked a glamorous reunion for Cruise and the Prince and Princess of Wales, who famously joined the superstar on the red carpet for the U.S. actor’s UK premiere of Top Gun: Maverick in 2022.
Speaking to reporters at the event, Cruise noted that his character, Digger Rockwell, stands out as a radical departure from anything he has tackled before, praising the script’s blend of dark comedy, fantasy, and drama. In the film, Cruise portrays a powerful oil tycoon who finds himself at the epicenter of a global environmental disaster linked to his own empire, plunging him into a high-stakes race to stave off a apocalyptic threat.
The project marks the first collaboration between Cruise and Iñárritu, the acclaimed director behind Birdman and The Revenant. Principal photography and post-production took place entirely in the UK, giving the London premiere extra resonance for the production team.
The Royal Film Performance is held annually to benefit The Film and TV Charity, raising crucial funds to support behind-the-scenes crew and technicians across the UK screen industries.
Digger is scheduled to begin its international theatrical rollout in Egypt on October 1, 2026, one day ahead of its North American release on October 2.
