Zurich Film Festival to Honor Naomi Watts with Golden Icon Award

Naomi Watts is set to receive the Golden Icon Award at the 2026 Zurich Film Festival, honoring an extraordinary career defined by emotional depth, versatility, and brave character choices.

The two-time Academy Award nominee will travel to Switzerland to present her latest feature, The Housewife, and participate in an exclusive In Conversation career retrospective before accepting the festival’s top tribute on September 26.

“It is a true honor to be recognized with the Golden Icon Award by the Zurich Film Festival,” Watts said in a statement, noting her eagerness to celebrate the milestone alongside industry peers and international cinephiles.

ZFF executive director Christian Jungen praised the actor’s enduring body of work, noting that since her breakout performance in David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, Watts has cemented her standing as one of the most compelling performers of her generation.

Jungen added that her rare ability to balance glamour, ambiguity, and psychological tension makes her a performer in the classic Hitchcockian mold.

In The Housewife, set in 1960s New York, Watts portrays an elegant socialite whose pristine domestic existence unravels after a young New Yorker journalist uncovers evidence implicating her husband as a former Nazi officer.

The period thriller, which co-stars Tye Sheridan, Michael Imperioli, and Luke Evans, will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10 ahead of its Zurich berth.

The 2026 Zurich Film Festival runs from September 24 through October 4, bringing together premier global titles and leading talent from across the industry.
